The International Water Management Institute’s Data Storehouse Pathway (IWMIDSP) is a Global Public Good (GPG) spatial data and product gateway on river basins, Nations, Regions and the entire World.

This document provides a clear policy on data access and dissemination.

    IP rights and data access

The IWMIDSP data is on public domain and is made accessible as a GPG. So the data and products are available for free download via intranet. The data are made accessible after meeting the intellectual property (IP) rights. So every data has an IP protocol: green (accessible for free to anyone in the World), blue (accessible to only IWMI researcher’s), and red (not accessible to anyone except the authorized personnel). Nearly 95 % of all IWMIDSP data is in green. There are some possibilities that we may release “blue” data to IWMI researcher’s and IWMI collaborators on a case-by-case basis. There is very little or no chances that we will ever make the red data available to anyone except IWMI researcher’s.

    Use for non-profit purposes only

The IWMIDSP data is “not for profit” use only. If profit is the motive, we suggest you let us know and get our authorization to use our data. An appropriate change will be made for the data in case of its use for profit. We urge all user’s to honor this clause very strictly.

    Non re-distribution policy

The IWMIDSP data should never be marketed or sold to anyone. You are strictly prohibited from re-distributing data even to your colleagues or friends. Anyone needing the IWMIDSP data must go through IWMIDSP.

    Online data access

Internet (web and ftp options) is the suggested/preferred option for all data download. We do not allow anyone (including IWMI researchers) to download data directly off our servers nor do we encourage free services. Anyone needing the IWMIDSP data should download off our primary site: http://www.iwmidsp.org

Offline data access and cost of service

The bandwidth is a problem for fast download of IWMIDSP data. In such a case, we will be happy provide data on USB drives or DVDs or CDs for a cost depending on the volume of data, time and other resources taken. The protocol for that involves, you requesting data using our "data request form" (must be filled online), pay for the costs of disks, courier/postage, and cost of time of staff. We will let you know the actual costs once you fill the online data request form which is available at: http://www.iwmidsp.org.

The Demand draft or Cheque should be Payable to "International Water Management Institute, Colombo" and mailed to the below address.
